Special Needs Activities
Trampoline Classes
Special Needs Activities tend to be few and far between. Most of the time, frustration grows when you find out that a special needs child cannot participate with other children due to ridiculous reasons and absurd excuses. Airborne Trampoline Vaughan welcomes all participants to come out and enjoy our programs and services. The exciting sport of trampolining should not be only for some. It should be available to all, including those with special needs including developmental disabilities and physical disabilities. Did you know that Airborne Trampoline offers a private and exclusive special needs program throughout the week and on weekends? Year round! Not only that, participating in a sport such as Gymnastics or Trampolining can make a dramatic impact on the overall health and wellbeing of special needs children and adults. Read on and find out what Airborne Trampoline has to offer to the special needs community and what benefits we have witnessed in our class participants.
Who can participate in these special needs activities? Everyone! Airborne Trampoline Vaughan’s special needs trampoline programs have hosted jumpers with many different types of special needs. These special needs jumpers include…
- Autism
- Downs Syndrome
- Attention Deficit / Hyper Active Disorder
- Pervasive Development Disorder
- Visual Impairments
- Cerebral Palsy
- Deafness and Hearing Loss
- Emotional Disturbance
- Epilepsy
- Intellectual Disability
- Learning Disabilities
- Severe and or Multiple Disabilities
- Speech and Language Impairments
- Traumatic Brain Injury
That is quite a list! In many instances, special arrangements and customized programs have been created to help accommodate our friends with special needs. Depending on the specific condition, Airborne`s Gymnastics Ontario Certified trampoline coaches work closely with the parents and caregivers of our jumpers in order to give them a window into what methods work best in ensuring all of our participants have a great time jumping on our trampolines.
Airborne’s Special Needs Activities and Trampoline Classes are geared towards improving the physical well being of our participants as well as allowing participants with special needs to have a physically active outlet to burn off some pent up energy. These classes are reoccurring and consistent each week allowing a set routine for those jumpers who crave or require a strict adherence to schedules or programs. Always hosted by an Airborne Trampoline Coach, Airborne’s Special Needs Trampoline Classes allow the jumpers to learn some neat trampoline tricks from the trampoline coaches, or just jump around and have fun. It is a completely customized approach that allows the jumpers to work at their own skill level. There is no pressure to advance, and quite often our jumpers find a certain set of trampoline tricks to be sufficient and enjoy practicing those tricks over and over again. But overall, it’s all about having fun on the trampolines in a safe, and well supervised environment.
Trampolining is one of the few special needs activities which works nearly every muscle in your body as you jump. When you start adding in skills and tricks, the benefits only grow. First and foremost, strength and conditioning improves dramatically, followed closely by improvements in special awareness and hand eye co-ordination. Most importantly, trampolining gives our special needs participants the opportunity dramatically improve their mood by giving them a physical activity which encourages production of endorphins. In an article titled Endorphines: Natural Pain and Stress Fighter by Medical Author, Melissa Conrad Stoppler, MD, she states that “In addition to decreased feelings of pain, secretion of endorphins leads to feelings of euphoria, modulation of appetite, and enhancement of the immune response.” These benefits work wonders in the improvements of mood and well being. Trampolining is one of best low impact sports available for special needs activities which works the whole body and encourages the production of endorphins. But don’t take our word for it. Come out and give our trampolines a try and see for yourself.
